Smarter

A note I fired off to my buddy Sarah, before composing anything on my own: "I need your advice on something. As much as I could talk to my best friends NOW about it, it still wouldn't be as good advice as if someone who knows me from way back could give. Clearly you've kept in touch with Elizabeth, since she's on your wall and you're her only friend on Facebook...so I'm assuming you invited her. Also that she doesn't really use Facebook. I wanted your opinion on whether or not it would be improper of me to send her a message. Nothing fancy, just along the lines of "Hey....congrats on getting into grad school, hope the end-of-term marking doesn't throw you for a loop and life is treating you well" or something as equally ineloquent. I haven't talked to her in about 6 years, since shortly after my dad died. She expressed her condolences, had hunted me down to use me as a subject for a paper she was writing. Seemed friendly herself and started talking about her life, when I think her husband put a stop to that. Or that was the impression I got. I really....just would like to say hi, see how she is. I keep in touch with you haphazardly, I keep in touch with Amanda, and well...that's it. What do you think?"

Now to await the response.

tears of joy, I mean

This right here is Facebook at it's best.

I have a cousin named Brandon. He was one of my best buddies growing up. He's actually my mother's cousin's son, our grandmothers were sisters. Brandon is not quite 6 months older than I, so as children so close in age in the family we did everything together. Our mothers even booked our checkups together when we were infants and it was at one of these checkups that I was watching him toddle around the waiting room and got jealous...so I stood up and started walking. When his grandmother died, our family kind of accidentally lost us at the funeral home where we were exploring upstairs together. We were a little traumatized.

Brandon and his little brother are my true cousins. Brianna and Christian are closer in blood, but they're children! I'm more their aunt, I'm 20 years older than them. As for Jennifer's kids, Kyllian and that bunch, again I'm much older than them and we've never had much to do with them. But Brandon and Adam, that's what family is to me.

And I haven't seen this boy in YEARS. When our great-grandmother died the family sort of fell apart, people didn't stay in touch. Also it was a year after that when I moved to Beamsville so I lost touch with a lot of people. When I went to Algoma in '98, I sat down in my biology class and there was a boy that looked like me. I handed in my first assignment after him, and glanced at the prof's desk with his paper on it and it WAS Brandon. So we hung out a bit then but I was fucked up, did a lot of acid with Kyle, and I lost Brandon again. I've looked for him ever since and Nana only gave me false leads. She's a little crazy, I don't know where she comes up with her information. And if you've ever actually looked at my Myspace profile, it says under "Who I'd Like To Meet" that "I'd like to track down my cousins Brandon and Nicole to see what they're up to now."

To make a long story short, who's on Facebook? I messaged him and heard back. He's in Vancouver. "Yes Jess, it's me. Why are you hiding behind beer bottles? I can still see ya." 3 sentences could make me cry.

Ha!

I just got the funniest message on Myspace.

"hi sorry to bug ya but I saw ur from sault ste marie originally. Me and a few of my friends plan on heading up there for the weekend and are looking for a few gay bars to go to while were there. Hoping you would be in the know. Any info is appreciated. Thanx"

HA!

My reply?

"No problem at all! I'm just sorry to report that there are really NO gay bars in Sault Ste. Marie. However on a recent trip up a month ago my friend researched this a little bit and heard back from the tourism board. "The Lesbian, Gay, bisexual, and transgender community holds dances second and fourth Saturdays of every month plus additional dates for special events at Algonquin Hotel (upstairs). Check schedule at algomapride.com 946-7006."

Also, and this is a far cry from anything you might be used to, but the local strip club was a whole lot of fun and they were nice to us there. It's called Studio 10 and it's by the international bridge. There was pretty much only 1 hot stripper there named Mary Lou, but you can drink, the waitresses are good to you, and the bouncers keep an eye out that no drunk guys will bother you. I went on a week day but apparently on the weekends quite a few women go. Don't be alarmed if they don't offer you lap dances though, apparently the dancers think that women will never really go for them.

Other than that, just stick to drinking in downtown pubs."

Spreading the love of Mary Lou via Myspace.

Holy crap

I have to thank Erin for introducing me to the crazy world of Facebook. Seriously everyone I've ever known is on there. All kinds of people from highschool that I never thought I'd ever hear of again, people from GRADE SCHOOL that I never even remembered to think I'd ever hear of again, people I knew randomly in the Sault up to and including....

THE FIRST GUY I SLEPT WITH WHEN I WAS 18 AKA MY FIRST BOYFRIEND! This guy was smitten with me when I was like, 14 and in Air Cadets. So when he asked me out, I didn't know better and said sure. When I was 18, I decided to sleep with a guy to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything. I'd already been dating girls for 2 years by that point. Kyle had offered but he was out of town and I was ancy to get it over with and I ended up calling this guy up.

I wasn't missing out on anything.

The moral of the story is that if you haven't gotten a Facebook then you should. If only for the superiority you get when you find people from high school that you hated have gotten fat, had babies, and their babies are ugly. And that the nice girl from kindergarten is hotter than hot.

EDIT: also I've convinced Erin to play Cyber Nations with me. It IS kinda fun, massively multi player(over 40 000 nations), and not hugely time consuming. Anyone else interested? Andy? Tav? Jules? Whoever? Since my nation is rather large and strong(in the top 2500 after 3 months) I'll give you guys money to get you guys well on your way and teach you how to play it.

A Wiki on CN: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Pious7/Cyber_Nations and there's a link to the actual CN Wiki itself so you can poke around

Multitasking

AND I'm doing it quite well. I'm whitening my teeth and dyeing my hair AT THE SAME TIME. I've once again taken an interest in making myself presentable after the mental funk I've been in for the past month and I think I owe it all to shopping. Maybe I just need to periodically spend $500 on clothes to keep myself sane. Oh wait, I think the tally went up with the $90 for 2 pairs of pants at H&M yesterday so maybe it's best if I just stop counting.

These Crest Whitestrips are uh....interesting. My gums and inside of my lips burn, and I get occasional shooting pains in a front bottom tooth. Is that normal? I'm having to literally carry chapstick around in my hand because the burning also means dry lips.

Ouch.

But I'll be presentable when I decide to be sociable again. With nice pants, whiter teeth, and short dark hair(got a haircut again too, and it's downright buzzed off at the back).

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IT'S IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

side note: I haven't slept in almost 24 hrs. I wrote a shit essay. And I've been really really out of sorts for weeks and somehow that's all made better by the fact that I randomly got $2142 completely unexpectedly in like, 3 days. This may not be a whole heck of a lot, but it's more than say...what I work 70 hrs a week over Christmas for. And right now I'm living off about $400 a month with the little number of hours I'm working. So I just got a bonus of 5 months worth of salary. And now....

...now I shop.

EDIT: I spent a lot of money today. All told incl. paying Erin back...$550. But my god, I had fun.

And it was all a very surreal experience thanks to the lack of sleep. When I went to hand in my essay it was downright trippy. I was surrounded by approximately 50 small asian women and they were all speaking Spanish. At first I thought I was hallucinating but it didn't dissipate.

Then off to the Eaton Centre! Hit up H&M for a shirt and underwear. Old Navy where my favourite pyjama pants were on sale and no good boxers were to be had. Went for a smoke with Erin(and paid her back the rest of the stripper money/car rental cost) and hugged The Beast. Shoppers for all the personal products I was too broke to splurge on, including Crest White Strips. And The Gap for my favourite really really soft tshirts, a lightweight hoodie, and packages of my standard black tshirts. It was a shirt day. And since Nana was envious of my really really soft tshirts(like the green one I wear incessantly at the cottage) I bought her a couple cause I was feeling nice.

Then off on an adventure down Queen West in search of new Blundstones. My other ones I'd worn SO MUCH over 4 years they looked like shite and the soles were actually cracked and leaking. That trip confirmed something for me at least...I'm still growing, and so are my feet. And this probably has something to do with why my fucking feet have been killing me. I was a size 6 in high school, then a 7 from 18-25....and now I'm fully an 8. I wasn't sure when my skates were too small, but I had to go a whole size up from the last Blundstones I got 4 years ago and this was all pretty recent I think. And it's not just my feet spreading out with age, my hands are bigger too. My glove size says so. So I got myself a pair of these http://www.blundstone.ca/products_blunnies_491.html with nice thick heels so I won't wear them out in a mere 4 years and a bit of rubber covering the toe so I don't scuff the shit out of them. Lovely sales girl there too that I really chatted with. About Parkdale of all things.

Now I sleep because I really am delerious. 30 hrs awake is no good. No good at all.

Also Michelle is awesome for going to the states and thinking of me. And getting me awesome food that you just can't buy in Canada. My favourite cereals to be specific, and a kind of chips and pop that were recommended to me. I now love Mountain Dew Livewire, and the Flaming Hot Cheetos are so hot they made me sweat after eating 3. Also I'm living off cereal now that I have Cocoa Pebbles, Cocoa Puffs, and Kix at my disposal. I freakin love Kix.

My pile of junk.
i hate essays

I seriously do. I'm killing myself over school right now...endless essays, another due in 2 weeks, and 5 exams over 3 weeks starting in less than a month. I'm possibly going to expire from lack of sleep. It's 3:30 am and I'm still going to be up for...yeah, I'm so not sleeping tonight.

However I've got a plan. The school gave me a $1000 grant this week. If on top of that I actually get my tax refund back, I'll have a total of $2200 extra cash which I haven't budgeted for or planned on in any way. If I get both those, then on May 7th at 5 pm, I shall go from my last exam straight to Futureshop and buy myself a reward in the form of this, this, and apparently I'll have to wait until September for this.

If I don't get both grant and tax refund, I'm gonna settle on a Wii. Or nothing and save over the summer for the PS3, but I think I need the PS3. Cross your fingers for the tax refund!

Oh, and you know how I always go on and on about imagery from the Dark Tower series following me everywhere when I read it, and that making me a little crazy? I'm not making it up, I swear. This is one of the least frightening findings, taken from the outline of my ENG202 course.

I was looking for cartoon boobs on the internet, and for some reason came up with this instead. http://allistairagator.livejournal.com/

I'm only mentioning it because it made me happy to see cute goth girls having cute babies. And numerous Sisters of Mercy quotes when referring to said CUTE damn baby.

But not the cartoon boobs I was looking for. At all.

i should know better...

...especially with exams little more than a month away, than to be reading the Dark Tower series again.

This time something else has jumped out at me. Remember how the first time through it damn near drove me insane? Because Stephen King wrote our world into the series as an alternate reality. And if you look hard enough and you think about it long enough, you start seeing signs out of the series in real life. Pretty much like I was the inspiration for that Jim Carrey move 23 that I wanted so badly to see.

This makes you feel both paranoid and crazy.

So I'm reading along innocently, thinking the crazy can't happen the second time around, when I come across this: "There's a boxcar on this track that's real close to the fence. Only ten yards or so. It says SOO LINE on the side." It's mentioned a few more times in the chapter after that.

Everyone growing up in northern Ontario knows this boxcar. It's the colour of rust with big white lettering on it. The name "Soo Line" came from the phonetic pronunciation of the word "Sault," as in Sault Ste. Marie. The company's first construction was to build a line from the Twin Cities to Sault Ste. Marie, hence it became the line to the Sault, or simply "Soo Line."

Imagine little old Sault Ste. Marie even found it's way into this creepy creepy series.

Just a little stabby

Also, one of the best things I've ever read on the internet and I inspired it: "Anytime there is Molestation Time sanctioned, it constitutes as a party. When you add in a door being stolen and random women used as dueling utensiles, it's a ball."

Also, because I'm trying to say I can't get enough of this song:

And maybe this one, that really made me sad. Ironically, the girl looks the slightest bit like my stripper although that's not what makes me sad:

I'll stop now. Wait, in final, did anyone else think this last L Word was a bit surreal and too much going on or was it just the fact that I was smoking pot while watching it? And by the last L Word I mean the one that aired in the states yesterday.

COOKIES!!!!

Michelle is an awesome cook, and loves me, and sent me the cutest present today. Oatmeal Raisin cookies, some sort of sugar cookie shaped like hearts with jam inside, a ridiculous pink hippo that vibrates and talks, a picture frame for a picture of Boo, candy, 2 cards, a Superman keychain, and stuff for my trip. I was so excited, but not as excited as Boo was about the cookies.

a better picture of the heart shaped cookies, which were just about the greatest thing ever made.

Also the light that straps to your head will be PERFECT for tobogganing in the Sault this weekend. 5 sleeps until my trip! I was so excited about the lamp that I cooked dinner in the dark wearing that. My mom came home and wouldn't believe I wasn't high, for some reason.

Also I really fucking love Season 4 of the L Word. Every Sunday night I wait impatiently for it to appear on Mininova. So good. I love Shane and Alice more and more every week. Still hate Angus and Jenny.

EDIT:

why, oh why wasn't I informed?????

"Out on November 3rd in Europe (and October 30th in the USA) via Wea International are three Sisters Of Mercy reissues: "First And Last And Always" (1985), "Floodland" (1987) and "Vision Thing" (1990). All of these classic SOM albums will contain bonus tracks which have been available on other releases (offical ones and bootlegs) for years already albeit remastered now. The bonus tracks on "First And Last And Always" are the tracks: "Poison Door", "On The Wire", "Blood Money", "Bury Me Deep", "Long Train" (in 2 versions) and "Some Kind Of Stranger (Early)". For "Floodland" the band delivers the extra tracks "Torch", "Colours", "Never Land (Full Length)" and "Emma". Finally "Vision Thing" will include the bonus songs "You Could Be The One", "More (Extended Version)", "Doctor Jeep (Extended Version)", "Ribbons (Live)" and "Something Fast (Live)". The CDs will be low priced."

Has anyone else noticed an abnormal amount of condom commercials on Edge 102? I blame VD Day.

I came home last night to reports that the kiddies are VERY excited about my upcoming visit. And apparently counting the days until my arrival. Christian was marching around the house yelling "MY cousin is coming to visit!" He's claimed me. I'm his. He also wanted to tell me that one toy we sent up at Christmas doesn't work, and could I please bring another.
